Typically, charities and not-for-profit organisations tend to be set up as companies limited by guarantee rather than with share capital. There are alternatives, however, so it makes sense to take professional advice at the outset.

Starting and running a charity

Charities are bound by special rules and are regulated by the Charity Commission. Both the charity itself and its directors and trustees must comply with these regulations.
