Pictons partner presents national lacrosse
championships trophies
Teams from Hertfordshire schools
Berkhamsted Collegiate and Haberdashers’ Aske’s were
among those who contested the play-offs for the Pictons-sponsored
national schools lacrosse championships at Berkhamsted.
An exciting senior final resulted in a 3:3 draw with the title being
shared by St Swithun’s of Winchester and Downe House of Newbury.
Queen Anne’s School, Caversham, were outright winners of the
under-15s event.
The trophies were presented by Marilyn Bell, a partner in the family
law department of the sponsors, Pictons. This is the
first time that Pictons have sponsored the championships but it
was a case of déjà vu for Mrs Bell.
“My daughter Linda played for Haberdashers’ Aske’s
when they shared the title in both 1995 and ’96,” said
Marilyn Bell. “She was also in the team when they won it outright
in 1997.
“I’ve certainly had my share of standing around on muddy
pitches, but Pictons are delighted to have supported this year’s
championships as our offices are in Herts, Beds and Bucks.”
Some 65 girls’ schools from all over Britain took part in
the championships organised by staff from Berkhamsted Collegiate
led by Anne Smith, head of lacrosse at the school and coach of the
England under-19 squad.
