Age Discrimination (Retirement)

As from 1st October 2006 employers cannot retire employees below the employers’ normal retirement age or below the default retirement age of 65.
If the employers’ normal retirement age is below 65, it must be objectively justified.

Age Discrimination (Redundancy)

Under the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 (“the Regulations”) it is unlawful to select for redundancy on the basis of age.
However age bands for determining levels of redundancy pay remain.
