Pictons is celebrating a sensational Hatters Cup weekend, organised by Luton Town Football Club and held at the club’s Kenilworth Road stadium.

This year Pictons was the sponsor of the event, the biggest youth football tournament in the UK which brings together teams of football-mad youngsters, from the ages of 7-15. Over the weekend of May 14th and 15th, 1400 young people represented their clubs and schools, aiming to win one of the eight coveted Hatters Cup trophies.

Sukh Saini, a Partner at Pictons says “It was a brilliant weekend, with fantastic organisation by Luton Town Football Club’s Youth Department, The skill and dedication of all the young players was totally inspiring. I’m a big Luton Town fan myself and Pictons is also a sponsor of the Club. I thought the standard of football was truly exceptional and the whole weekend was thoroughly entertaining. I can’t wait for my three year old son to be old enough to take part!”

In addition to The Hatters Cup, Pictons also sponsored a Penalty Kings shoot out, inviting every team to participate with one their fans, a team coach and one of their players. The crowds of parents and team members cheered heartily in the stands as the winning fans won a bottle of wine (or chocolate if they were too young for alcohol) the successful coaches got new bench jackets and the teams’ champion players who took the penalties won a generous voucher for team equipment and a LTFC football signed by the Club’s players.

Stefan Muzsnyai, who founded and runs the Penalty Kings, continues “We were really delighted by the response to our Penalty Kings competition this year. It takes place alongside the main tournament and adds a lot of excitement and a real buzz. Pictons made a generous donation to Penalty Kings that’s enabled us to buy 6,000 anti-tetanus vaccines for Unicef. In more ways than one, football really does change lives.”

2011 is the fifth year of The Hatters Cup tournament and David Hoskins, Commercial Manager of LTFC reflects “Every year The Hatters Cup gets bigger and better. This year we were oversubscribed and had a waiting list of teams. It is an extraordinary weekend of tremendous co-operation and great football. The atmosphere is one of friendly competition and you really do see some tremendous young footballing talent.

“We had some extra excitement this year when LTFC’s first team, who are due to play in the landmark promotional final in Manchester next Saturday, came back from training and greeted the young players on the pitch. They were mobbed!

David concludes “The Hatters Cup is now established as one of the most hotly anticipated events for young people in the footballing calendar and we look forward to another great competition in 2012.”
