HEALTH AND BEAUTY
Health and beauty is a big business in the UK, with many women and men regularly visiting beauty salons or hairdressers.
Over recent years there has been an increase in more invasive procedures being offered, such as Botox injections and chemical peels. It is important that such procedures are only offered and administered by suitably qualified individuals.
For most of us a trip to the beauty salon or hairdresser leaves us feeling good but occasionally things can go wrong and the procedure or treatment falls below the standard of care expected, resulting in injury.
If you have been injured as a result of a beauty treatment or procedure, you may want to consider initiating a claim for compensation against the salon where the treatment was received.
What if you have a bad hair day?
If your hair is damaged as a result of a chemical treatment received at a salon, below are some steps you will need to take before deciding upon any action:
- Contact the salon's owner and explain in detail the kind of damage experienced;
- You may not wish to set foot in that salon again, but before you rule out assistance from the stylist, see what she/he is prepared to offer to remedy the situation;
- The hairdresser should immediately arrange an appointment to analyze your hair and scalp and to restore your hair to a healthy state;
- If you and the salon's owner cannot come to a satisfactory resolution and you feel your hair has been damaged severely enough to warrant legal action, then you will need to save the damaged hair and take pictures of the affected area. If there are any witnesses, get statements from them (or at least their names and telephone numbers).
